I obtained my PhD at the Institute of Neuroscience (UMH/CSIC, Spain) working under the supervision of Prof. Óscar Marín where I studied the development of the mammalian cerebral cortex. This research contributed to the discovery of several critical guidance molecules involved in the migration of a subset of cortical neurons (GABAergic interneurons) through the cerebral cortex. After a short postdoctoral period in the same laboratory, I decided to join the laboratory of Prof. Richard Benton at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) to study the neural and genetic basis of behavior. During this period I studied the peripheral gustatory system of Drosophila melanogaster, focusing on the perception of non-nutrient cues like texture detection and carbonation sensing and describing receptors necessary for this two processes.
