Sarah Hume
Sarah graduated from the University of Leicester in 2023 with an MSci in Natural Sciences. During her master’s project she gained population genetics and wet lab skills studying a selective sweep in the behaviour linked gene, Neuroligin 4, in the ant Leptothorax acervorum. Sarah joined the Arguello lab as a PhD student in 2024 and moved from ants to Drosophila. Now she studies olfactory evolution in Oriental Drosophila, characterising antennal transcriptomic evolution and the ‘recoding’ of olfactory sensory neuron populations, with a particular focus on Or67a paralogues and orthologues. In her free time, she is a frequent baker, cross stitch enthusiast, and novice ice skater.
